About

Michael Jones is a native to the San Francisco Bay Area since 1980. Born in Santa Clara CA, he is the son of a working-class music teacher and English professor. He was excited to be exposed to music and literature at an early age.

Michael began his journey into the world of art as a percussionist at the age of five, and with the help of his private music teacher was given the opportunity to gig with a live jazz band by the age of seven. He followed in his father's footsteps to pursue mountain biking, trials riding, and solo rock-climbing expeditions into the mountains of Castle Rock and Big Basin.

Michael's enthusiasm for art took on new forms as he began to transition to more visual art mediums in his early 20s. In 2007 Michael entered a design contest to create a new logo for the CTA (California Teachers Association) and with a stroke of luck won first prize, this logo is still in use to this day.

Michael also creates graphic slides and videos for the occupational therapy team at Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, CA.

Michael's influences mostly come from musicians such as Tony Williams, Allan Holdsworth, Frank Zappa, and Jean Luc Ponty. He is also strongly influenced by classical baroque painter Caravaggio and the photography of Gordon Parks and Kerry Skarbakka.
